EQII: Status Loot now has Five More Levels? October 19, 2007

I must have missed the memo.  Either that, or another change apparently slipped through the patch notes.  This time, the change could result in a massive shift of balance for guilds looking to level up after Rise of Kunark is released.

Last night while we merrily romped through the Shard of Fear with reckless abandon, one of my guildmates noticed something odd about the status loot that was dropping.  Where before Emerald Amulets stated they could be turned in to provide guild status for guilds under level 70, they now stated level 75.  Older Tier 7 status items now claimed they were good up till level 65.

In other words, it would seem that SOE has tacked on another five levels to status loot.  Guilds at the current level cap of 60 can now hoarde not only Tier 8 items…but also Tier 7.

We’ll keep an eye out to see if these items revert back in the meantime…

I personally see this added flexibility more as a boon for plat sellers than for guilds who want the early start. Most normal players like you and I tend to sell our status items to vendors for the points or at least for the silver. Plat sellers broker ALL of them in giant stacks.

More to the point, because of initial announcements, many level 60 guilds either moved to sell off vast quantities of pre-hoarded Tier 7 status items which were no longer of any use to them, or simply allowed their members to turn them in for personal status.

I expect that as word of this change gets out, we’ll see a bit of “discussion” on the subject.

I noticed a couple of days ago that there is now status items for guilds below level 65 as well as below level 75. I was wondering if there had been any notes in regard to this. At least we now have twice as many status items that can be saved.

Clearly, this was done specifically to spite my guild, which just made level 46 a couple weeks ago. :-)

Though I guess we can now use the new level 55 items for another 5 levels sometime in the far-distant future…
